Robert Aitchison
Robert Aitchison's Biography Robert Aitchison's abstract drawings and paintings are explorations of the natural world in which the structure and changing phenomena of nature serve as metaphors for internal dialogues and dynamics occurring on spiritual and psychological levels.
Aitchison's visual language is comprised of distilled, fragmented forms extracted from diverse natural environments. His paintings are created through an extensive process of layering, erasing, negating, and merging of imagery and space. The synthesis of raw, organic lines and diffused planes of color express complex compositions which "invite engagement and contemplation".
Aitchison was raised in Spring, Texas and studied painting at the University of Texas at Austin. He has exhibited in Texas, New York, and Europe and his works can be found in private collections in the United States, South America and Europe. He currently lives and works in New York City. In addition to his studio work Aitchison also instructs art therapy workshops for mentally ill adults and children and serves as an artist-in-residence in several New York City schools.
